red dot design museum, Germany

The red dot design museum houses the largest exhibition of contemporary design worldwide. The backdrop of the museum alone makes it worth a visit. The boiler house of the Zollverein colliery was converted into the red dot design museum by Lord Norman Foster. Around 1,500 products from all over the globe are presented over an area exceeding 4,000 square metres; all of the products are red dot winners. The names of the designers and companies reads like the who’s who of design. Instead of signs that read ‘Please do not touch’, the exhibition encourages visitors to ‘reach out and touch’ in the case of most of the exhibits, allowing visitors to explore the prizewinning products with all of their senses. All of this takes place against the impressive architecture of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Zollverein colliery, which not only attracts design-lovers to the red dot design museum, but also makes it a sought-after location for corporate and PR events.
